How does painting on subway cards and selling them “dilute” the MTA’s brand? Leaving the artwork issue aside, is the MTA generally concerned that people might come to NYC to get on the Underground or the U-Bahn or the Bangkok Skytrain if they don’t “brand” effectively enough?
Notwithstanding the MTA’s natural monopoly on subterrenean rapid transit, I guess it’s possible that if we’re not clear enough about who’s MTA and who’s not, a misguided person out to catch the M42 might end up on a bus full of church marms out of South Plainfield here in town for a Wicked matinee. But short of issuing your own brand of MTA cards for value I don’t see how painting fuck all on somebody’s trash you found stuck to a condom waiting for the F train hurts the MTA.
